About Emma, Mia & Sam
Want a sneak peek inside the pit? From product launch parties to their personal must-haves, Samantha Speisman, Mia Shulman and Emma Yardley dish on why working within these pretty pink walls is so sweet.
With the Academy Awards just days away, Bonnie looks at last year’s sartorial winners and losers.
In just a few days, millions of people will hunker down in their living rooms to watch Hollywood’s biggest and brightest pat themselves on the back.
And while everyone is I know is catching up on all the nominated flicks and picking their favourites, (I say it’s a Best Picture toss-up between Avatar, Precious or Up in The Air) I am mostly in it for the clothes.
The carpet at the Kodak is after all the sartorial stage of the year for celebrities, and I look forward to evaluating every dress, hairdo, flub, trip and speech. Since we all know it takes a village—in this case a glam squad that rivals Obama’s secret service detail—and exactly 364 days to pull their looks together, (if they say it took 5 minutes, it's a lie) I feel we as a people reserve the right to judge, judge, judge.
In case you forgot who worked it (and who wonked it) at last year’s spectacle, here’s my recap of some of the Sweet and Sour looks from '09.
THE SWEET

Kate Winslet: Love her and loved her Atelier Yves Saint Laurent grey satin and tulle gown. When Kate finally picked up a Best Actress win for The Reader, I was doing jumpy claps for her from my couch.
Tina Fey: Again, I may be bias here (Tina Fey is the best) but Liz Lemon looked awesome in this form-fitting dazzler. Just because you’re funny, doesn’t mean you can’t be a babe.
Marisa Tomei: Ok, so I get that maybe some of you still have your knickers in a bunch over her Oscar nab for My Cousin Vinny, but you have to admit that her pearly grey origami-like Versace Atelier was a clear win.
THE SOUR

Beyonce: My first question when seeing her hit the carpet was, "Do not tell me she let her mother dress her for the flipping Oscars!” Well, she did.
Jessica Biel: To me this dress looked like she dined and then dashed out the door with her dinner napkin still tucked into her real dress.
Miley Cyrus: Besides looking like a hot mess of sparkly fish scales, this dress just SCREAMS Princess/Barbie/fairytale wannabe (with a dash of figure skater for good measure). And that just forces my mind to wonder off into creepy little girl pageant territory. Not good.
Looking forward to Sunday's show, I think Best Actress will be between these two ladies:

Sandra Bullock
The Blind Side
|

Gabourey Sidibe
Precious
