Bonnie has Breakfast at Tiffany to check out Paloma Picasso’s latest collections.
They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend. But what about gold, turquoise, emerald and lapis lazuli?
A few weeks back, I was invited to have Breakfast at Tiffany at the Bloor Street flagship store (I know, awesome right?) to celebrate Paloma Picasso’s 30th Anniversary with the jeweller, and to check out her latest collections.
The daughter of Pablo Picasso, her designs (like the loving heart and love & kisses) have become just as recognizable as the iconic Tiffany six-pronged solitaire engagement ring, and come with price tags ranging from, “I could maybe swing this” casual to “If I win the lottery” decadent.
Of course, my favourite pieces came from the Marrakesh collection (totally in the latter category). Inspired by the mosaic tile patterns in her Moroccan villa, it boasts pieces like gold, grid patterned medallions with lapis lazuli, ($6,000) an egg-shaped pendant dotted with turquoise and diamonds, ($17,000) and a stunning emerald and black onyx tassel necklace (a faint-inducing $22,400).

One piece in particular had me considering the various organs I could sell for profit. A delicately-bold 18-karat gold bangle that looks like spun caramel, albeit at $6,000, very expensive caramel (its sister sterling silver version is a relative steal at $1,250).
While these baubles are obviously not meant for everyone, there were some great (read: less expensive) pieces that made my wish list. From the Dove collection (Paloma is Spanish for peace) there’s a very pretty dove-shaped pendant in sterling silver ($150) and from the Hammered collection, a silver circle pendant ($180) that would make any girl opening that little blue box swoon with delight.
And honestly, who doesn’t love that little blue box?
