5 Things I Never Thought I'd Do
tales from the pit: taking fashion and beauty risk canada
(Nov.07.11)
Mia shares five things she never thought she'd do.
A friend and I were recently joking about our style and how far it's come since we met at University. She reminded me of my daily uniform (I cringe to even share this with you for fear that you'll never take my fashion advice again): Lululemon pants, TNA tank top and some kind of cardigan with my hair clipped back from my forehead. Day in, day out. I even wore that outfit on dates. First dates. Never second dates...
I've come a long way, slowly but surely. In recent weeks, I've stepped so far out of my comfort zone I barely even recognize myself.
Here are the top 5 new trends I've tried (and now can't live without):
1. I got a spray tan. It was glorious. People asked me if I'd just returned from a vacation. Nobody has ever asked me that, even after I've returned from a vacation. I left the house without makeup. My hair looked blonder, my teeth whiter, my confidence was sky high.
2. I've been wearing faux fur, coloured faux fur at that. Yes, SweetLife WYWI, I would wear it.
3. I coloured my hair. I've been highlighting my hair since I was 13. My hair has always been blonde (or blond with ashy blond roots). True, it was a temporary job, but it was pink! Talk about delayed adolescence.
4. From the time I started getting manicures (at the age of 15) till recent years, I switched between two polishes: OPI Sweetheart and Mrs. O'Leary's BBQ. Same went for my toes. In the past year I've sported black toenails with silver and gold glitter, flower prints and polka dots, not to mention a host of colours.
5. I wear cobalt blue pants. This is so lame but I'm a bit of a colour-phobe. I love colour, but I'm very picky about wearing more than one colour at once, and what colours can be worn together. Again, seriously lame. Buying a pair of bright royal blue J Brands was a huge step. Wearing them with anything other than white, black and grey will hopefully come in time.
Have you taken any fashion and/or beauty risks lately? What do you think of the trends I've tried?
