Mia shares the five things that made 2011 a memorable year.
I'm a sentimentalist. As 2012 approaches, I can't help but look back and ponder 2011, and man, oh man, what a year it was. From the personal highs to awesome accomplishments for sweetspot.ca, this was a year that truly made me proud. At the risk of being a little boastful, here are five things that made this year a memorable one.
1. It's no secret that sweetspotters have a penchant for cupcakes, chocolates, ice cream, brownies, cookies...need I go on? And while it's good to indulge once in a while, it's even better to eat well, stay fit and be up to date on everything related to health, and with the launch of SweetFit in July, that became a heck of a lot easier. I especially love SweetFit's guides on what to eat at Starbucks, Tim Horton's and McDonald's. What? Once a sweetspotter, always a sweetspotter...
2. I made so many new friends this year. Seriously! Between the launch of iVillage.ca and its awesome staff moving into our office, SweetHome Editor Jes returning from mat leave and our new SweetMama Editor Jennifer and Assistant Editor Rebecca, our office is just about bursting at the seems with the friendliest, sweetest, funniest people in digital media. And they're all my friends. Honestly. I have the friendship bracelets to prove it.
On top of all the friends I made, my coworkers made some pretty sweet friends too. SweetLife Editor Gabrielle got spicy with Isaiah Mustafa, the Old Spice Guy and SweetFit Editor Samantha met reality TV star and PR guru Kelly Cutrone.
3. We decided to end the year on a high note with a wicked new piece of content: a daily updated calendar. In November we gave you a recipe for a delicious new baked good each day (which I also took as confirmation that eating a baked good each day is kosher). Since 2011 was the unofficial year of nail polish, our December calendar has a cool new manicure, polish or tip for keeping your tips in top shape. Don't miss it!
4. If you'd ever wondered about the faces behind the names on sweetspot.ca, 2011 was the year that I stepped out from behind the pink walls. Apologies for the over-saturation of my face on Test Labs and Sweet TV, but I had so much fun testing fashions, sharing helpful beauty tips (like how to curl your hair with a flat iron - my very first video for the site!) and representing sweetspot.ca on Daytime Toronto.
5. We were nominated for four Canadian Online Publishing Awards in September, and while we sadly didn't win, we were thrilled to see our site alongside the other awesome finalists. And you can be sure that next year, we'll get right back in the ring.
Thanks for celebrating our successes. 2011's been a blast and I can guarantee 2012 will be just as sweet, if not sweeter!
