I promised my next blog post would be about American Idol, and American Idol chatter is what you’re going to get. I love the show; I’ve watched it since Kelly won, and have pretty much continued ever since. I have fallen off the bandwagon once or twice (before the glorious days of PVR and TiVo) but now, even with my busy schedule (Fashion Week doesn’t end when the work day does), I am able to follow every single move. From Hollywood week, to the top 9 (which if you haven’t been following Season 8, is where they are now) I haven’t skipped a beat. I have my favourites and my not-so favourites, so let’s count down the top 5 top 6 that I have been talking about this season:
6. Tatiana Del Toro
It pains me to include her in this list. I couldn’t believe it when the judges put her in the top 36, and I really freaked out when they gave her a second chance. She is possibly the most irritating person to ever grace the AI stage, and I maybe would have stopped PVRing if she had made it to the top 12. Luckily, she didn’t. Her laugh and melodramatic reactions to absolutely everything just made me gag; she will definitely not be missed.
5. Adam Lambert
I have to agree that the guy can sing. He has a phenomenal voice. But AI? Absolutely not. He belongs on Broadway and nowhere else. Everything about his performances gives me the heebie jeebies…but maybe that’s just me? What do you guys think of him? Those thoughts were before he did this.....and now, wow.
4. Shimmy Girl (aka Megan Joy)
She has been given this nickname by boyfriend and I as she does this weird shimmy move when she sings; side to side, every single performance, no fail. Just watch for it (if you haven’t already noticed). She has an interesting voice and I could totally hear her on the radio but she has got to lose that shimmy.
3. Matt Giraud
Justin Timberlake; numero deux. He has a record deal in his back pocket, even if he doesn't make it to the finale.
2. Scott MacIntyre
There is something about Scott that makes me smile every time he gets on the stage. His sheer enthusiasm for music, and appreciation for being on Idol shines through every song he performs. The fact that he is visually impaired doesn't hold him back for a minute. I don't think Scott MacIntyre is the best singer in Season 8, but I won't be surprised if he makes it to the end (or close to it.)
1. Danny Gokey
I am in love. Not because Danny lost his wife (which people
really need to stop talking about) but because he is an absolutely fantastic singer. His voice gives me the chills (even more so than
Daughtry, who was my original idol love) and he is the first (and probably only) man who can sing Mariah Carey. His bromance with best friend, Jamar Rogers (who also tried out), just melted my heart. I never knew men could have friendships like mine. Anybody else as smitten as I am?
So who do I want to win? I would guess we should keep our eye on Danny and Adam, that's who I am predicting will be the final two standing. Anyone disagree?? Log in and let me know who your favourites are!!
'Til the Finale,
Sam
