Leavin' on a Jet Plane

tales from the pit canada (May.11.09)

Jack, I'm hitting the road.

Well not exactly, more like the air and then the high seas, but in the end it's all the same. All that matters is I'm off.

It's Victoria Day weekend which means its time for me and ma famiglia to get away together. And when I say ma famiglia, I mean it. It's not just Mom, Pops and Rob (who is my boyfriend, in case you aren't on a first name basis yet). It's Mom, Pops, Rob, Aunt, Uncle, Cousin #1, Cousin #2 and Bubbie and Zaidie (who again, is Grandma and Grandpa if you aren't down with the Yiddish lingo). Every Victoria Day weekend for the last 5 years, we've all hit the road together, starting out small with weekend road trips to New York and Washington and slowly escalating to 4 day cruising and eventually a full week-long family fest. It's a nice chance for my grandparents to spend an extended amount of time with their grandchildren, since one lives in London at Western University, one is 17 and into everything BUT family, and I am just a busy, busy girl who tries her hardest but isn't as great as calling as she wishes she was.

While I am sure you have devoured and enjoyed every sentence of the above family story, my blog is to share with you what I will be taking with me when I head out Friday. If you read Ashleigh's blog on her packing issues, and subsequently my comment, you'll know I pride myself on being a very light packer. I have learned my lesson the hard way (after one too many trips lugging too many suitcases and not wearing half of it's contents) so now, I take one suitcase (which is on the smaller side) yet don't ever feel like I'm missing something.  If you want to become more like me, then read on travellers!

Here are a few of the things that will be in my suitcase on Friday:

1.
Phootlery - Ok so these won't actually be in my suitcase on Friday, since I haven't purchased a pair yet, but if you are trying to pack lightly, these should be your go-to item. Click here to find out why...

2. Second Clothing Co. Yoga Jeans - These will absolutely be in my suitcase. I can't explain to you the comfort of these jeans. People often ask me what kind of jeans I'm wearing, and I say Yoga Jeans, and they say, "What? You do yoga in them?" Sigh. No, you don't do yoga in them. They're just so comfortable that you could. So if you don't own them yet, do yourself a favour and go buy a pair. You will not regret it. Click here to see what we said about them...

3. Sally Hershberger Shagg Spray - I love beach hair and unfortunately the only time I can get it is when I'm on vacation (and hence, near a beach). This shagg spray is coming with me, which eliminates the need for blow dryer and flat iron!

4. Anything from this list - At least one (maybe two) of any of these items will get you through a week away. A hat for shade (in case your first day attempt at a tan turns out to be more of a burn...), a dress which can double as a bathing suit cover up AND dinner wear, and of course a good pair of shades. There is something about sunglasses that makes you feel glamourous, so find a pair you love and wear them every day. You'll feel like a celebrity, I promise.

5. A good tinted moisturizer (our Best Of list is here!).

There's the first five. If I think of any others, I'll add them in!

Happy Travels,

Sam
