A Face for Fall

fall makeup trendscanada (Sep.02.09)

Since this month is all about fall trends (just check out our Guide), we thought it was the perfect time to talk to an expert about what we should be putting on our face. Greg Wencel from Covergirl, shares what's hot in makeup for Fall 2009.

What's hot in makeup for Fall 2009?

Eighties revival ruled the runways for the Fall/Winter ’09 season. From new wave neutrals to electric androgyny, the message is too much is never enough. Think of a powerful woman who is in charge and in control. Glamour is back!

New wave neutral is about all-American eighties beauty. It is a soft and healthy look with an attitude. This look is about the contrast between light and dark, matte and shimmer. Start by creating flawless matte skin and add contrast with shimmering accents. Think classic beauties like Christie Brinkley, Lauren Hutton and Brooke Shields. Another element of this trend is triangular and hard-edge shapes around the eyes and cheekbones. This can be achieved through the use of tone-on-tone shades in bronzes, beiges, browns, and coppers. Remember to always finish off with a heavy brow.

Electric androgyny is all about the eighties underground club scene - dense, intense colour that is strong, heavy and graphic. The goal is to sculpt and amp-up every feature with bright, bold and deliberate hues. The use of high voltage colours, from eighties denim blue to electric pink, really encapsulates the look.

The no-makeup look is over this season, so embrace this exciting new movement and have fun with make-up!

Greg Wencel has been an influential force in the beauty and fashion industry for the last ten years. Not only has he made a name for himself in the editorial/advertising world and backstage during New York Fashion Week, his creative eye has been coveted by top celebrities and supermodels. He has just been named the new makeup pro for Covergirl Canada.
