There are so many different kinds of eyeshadows out there (baked, cream, loose powder etc.). What’s the difference between them, and what effect does each one give?
Melissa G. emailed us at expert@sweetspot.ca, and SweetLife beauty expert (and COVERGIRL makeup pro) Greg Wencel answered;
As a makeup artist I get to work on various types of photo shoots and events that require different eye makeup techniques and colours. Knowing what type of product is best for achieving specific looks is very important!
Pigment powder: Loose pigment powder can be used not only as eyeshadow, but also for lips and face. Originally, these powders were intended to be the basic ingredient of coloured makeup, you could mix it with clear gloss and get custom coloured gloss. Use it on cheeks and you get a blush. You can also use them to highlight your skin or décolleté.
Loose powder eyeshadow: these have one specific purpose; eyeshadows. They may have been mixed with other fillers and are therefore less pure than pigments.
Baked eyeshadow: Baked eyeshadows are highly pigmented and long lasting. These shadows come in a solid and can be used wet as a liner or dry for a softer more subtle finish.
Cream eyeshadow: Cream eyeshadows are easy to use and great for layering under a loose or solid shadow to help set it for staying power and to intensify colour. Cream shadows can also be worn alone for a more fresh, natural look.
