We had a few questions about footwear, and we were lucky enough to talk to world-famous shoe designer Stuart Weitzman for answers:
Can you give any tips on surviving high heels?
Ten years ago 10% of heels were over three inches. Now it’s 20%. But don’t ever stretch to a height you don’t regularly wear. Inside the shoe is where the comfort comes from, so make sure there’s cushioning.
If we want to splurge on an “investment shoe,” what should we look for?
First, don’t go over 50% of what you would normally spend. When picking the shoe, it has to do something to you. You should be thinking: “What clothes can I put on to wear with that shoe?” There isn’t one style that is right; it should match your personality. Think of it like you’re picking a boyfriend.
When should we get rid of a pair of shoes?
When a shoe is worn out, scrubby and beat up, you have to look past how much you love it. Wearing those shoes will send the wrong message, so don’t let a pair get to that point. If it’s a classic shape (rather than a trendy “fashion shoe”) you don’t have to worry about it going out of style before it wears out. Colours like black and navy are perfect since they’ll always be acceptable.
