I love the new long baby doll tops but I'm not really sure how to wear them.
Barbi B. from Toronto, ON. Emailed us at asktheexpert@sweetspot.ca; and our clothing stylist, Kelly Millar answered:
The baby doll look is fantastic depending on the silhouette. If you are fuller in the bust and hips it will just make you bigger. However, for pear shape figures it will accentuate the slimness of the torso while camouflaging the fullness of the hips, and hides a thicker waist. It is also flattering on straighter figures with smaller busts as it enhances the bust line and creates shape.
Varieties in silk, cotton knit or jersey that drape are particularly forgiving. Many baby doll tops have scoop- or v-necks that will always elongate and create a slim look. The empire waist is very feminine and youthful, but with a cinched waist it can give a more sophisticated look for 30 and beyond.
Try a wide belt over longer versions or with tights for a chic look (which is very popular in Paris) or for shorter versions, combine with slimmer capris, slim-legged trousers or skinny jeans.
For a polished look, be sure to wear a jacket that is as long or longer than the top itself.
