How can I dress comfortably to run errands or relax around the house, but not look too casual?
Barb C. emailed us at expert@sweetspot.ca; and our clothing stylist, Kelly Millar, answered:
It is very possible to look 'well put together' for a day of errands or just being around the house; fashionable loungewear is one of my favourites! The key is to layer, layer, layer. You can add style to any basic cami with a cardigan or sweater-jacket paired with leggings. Or try a cute, casual cotton jacket over a cami, tee or knit-shirt with a pair of comfortable, fitted (not 2 sizes too big) cotton trousers. You can also find a wide selection of structured, lightweight jackets quite inexpensively to add a finished look to any outfit.
I'm a big fan of a zip-up or hoody with a pair of lounge trousers (not sweats!) for a casual, chic look. Unlike sweats, they provide the casual look of a trouser without being schlepy. Available in an array of stretch blended fabrics and flattering cuts, they say 'well put together' without an ounce of effort! Try lively, jewel tones mixed with neutral separates.
Dress up any scoop or v-neck knit and casual trouser with a fabulous cinch belt or a quirky necklace, ring or cuff. Finish your look with ultra feminine, and always stylish (yet comfortable) ballet flats, swanky sneakers or a stylish flat boot.
