Our favourite fashion item yields a lot of questions. Fortunately for us, the mastermind behind Fidelity Denim (and overall Jean Guru) Jason Trotzuk sat down with us to answer some of our most burning denim FAQ’s.
1. Sometimes when I buy new denim, the dye rubs off and stains my other clothes. How can I stop this from happening?
It’s always smart to turn your jeans inside out and use cold water when washing to reduce colour bleed. Like with anything dark, wash with like colours.
2. How to I make sure my jeans don’t lose their shape over time?
Good jeans are designed to evolve over time – that’s what’s great about them! TIP: Buy high quality ring spun denims and look for a bit of spandex; this improves hold and gives superior shaping.
3. What should I look for when I’m buying a new pair of jeans?
To thine own self be true! Have a realistic perception of your body type and what works for it. Remember to consider comfort – if they feel great, likely they look great! There are multiple styles that can work for any body, but not everything will work on everybody. Don’t skimp on quality because a high-quality jean is arguably the most versatile, long-lasting and useful item in your closet. The three tenets of a great jean are FABRIC, FIT and FINISH.
4. What do you foresee being the big upcoming trends in jean styles?
Women’s denim will continue to head in the polished direction we’ve seen of late. I wouldn’t say that either tapered or wide-leg will dominate because I’m seeing many trends co-exist. With the exception of novelty styles like distressed, metallic and oversized boyfriend jeans, women are still seeking figure-flattering styles that can be worn from day to night. The runway rules — I definitely see denim permeating our wardrobes and going beyond jeans and into tailored jackets, bustiers and even swimwear. Denim has come a long way from its industrial roots!
