The life of a supermodel can be tough; forget adding author, mom and host of a hit television show to the mix. Iman sat down with us to provide some insider information on judging Project Runway, her personal style, and how she stays looking so young…
What do you look for when you’re judging the designs on Project Runway? Do you look for similar elements when you’re shopping?
I always look for individuality, but it also has to have great detail and workmanship. I look for the same elements when I am shopping.
You have a very keen sense of personal style. Did it always come naturally to you, or did your sense of style develop over the years?
I have always gravitated to what looks good on me and I have tried to stay away from trends. I love clothes that are based on classics but have been updated. Mind you, I’ve definitely had moments where I’ve thought, “what was I thinking?," but they are few and far between.
You’ve met the late, great Diana Vreeland, who credited naps and ginseng tea to maintaining her beauty. What are your own beauty secrets?
I agree with her about naps! But I will say massages and drinking lots of water.
What are three must-have items that you think every woman should own?
A great classic bag, a fabulous trench and Lanvin ballet flats.
Are there any fashion trends right now that you wish you weren’t happening?
The bubble skirt/dress trend is not a favourite of mine, but I think that it’s on its way out, thank god. High-waisted jeans are another trend that I wish would go away.
