It may be Fall Fashion Week, but we can't get our minds off of Spring. We had a chance to sit down with genuis designer, Joe Mimran (of Joe Fresh, Club Monaco and Alfred Sung fame - plus our latest obsession, Joe Fresh Beauty) and pick his brain in preparation for the season...
It’s time for us to start the spring closet revamp. Which items should we be spending on, and which items can we get away with skimping on?
Below are key items that you should be spending on:
- A new jacket -- button-less, sleeveless, boyfriend
- A new pant -- fluid trousers, cropped cuts or daring dhoti styles
- A dress -- floral, shirtdress, graphic prints and softer shapes
- A new shoe/sandal -- patent, wedge and bright colours
- Invest in the new nudes
- Graphic black and white
You can skimp on anything that is too trendy. For Spring, you might want to skip:
- Sequins
- Beads
- Heavy metals
What are the 3 most important items for a woman to have in her closet?
The three (can we make it five??) most important items that a woman should have in her closet are classics that never go out of style:
- A statement coat -- the classic trench works 24/7
- Tailored jacket -- to dress up (over a dress) or dress down (with denim)
- A perfect pant -- skinny or wide leg
- The must-have white shirt
- Dark denim jeans
You can't go wrong with a fitted jacket, white shirt, dark denim and ballet flats -- always chic, always modern.
Are there any tips on how to tell if an item is cheaply made, or simply inexpensive?
Feel the fabric; look at the finishing to see if there are loose threads. It's usually a sign of poor workmanship. Crumple it in your hand to see how it springs back; really, just feel it.
