I don't want to join a gym and hate the cold - what kind of workouts can I do in my home?
Celeste R. emailed us at expert@sweetspot.ca; and our fitness expert, Larry Track answered:
You definitely don’t have to leave your house to workout and get in the best shape of your life!
Here are the top five things needed for a home gym:
1) Dumbbells: You’ll need some resistance, so purchase what you need based on your strength level (3lbs – 25lbs is a great start and not expensive).
2) Adjustable Bench: Never mind the Bowflex; this is simple and with dumbbells it’s all you’ll need.
3) Bosu DSL Trainer: A big rubber ball to use for abs that can also be used as a replacement for a bench.
4) Push-UP Bars: Yes you can do push-ups on the ground, but these are a constant reminder to do them!
5) Skipping Rope: Skipping is a fantastic Cardio workout and will tone your shoulders and arms.
You don't need a treadmill, bike or elliptical if you can't afford them; it's not cold 12 months a year and with your skipping rope you can stay in shape indoors at a low cost. All the costs associated with setting up a small home gym are a better way to spend your money than on a Gym Membership you may never use. And remember, the equipment will never expire.
