I want to rekindle the romance this Valentine's Day, and am thinking that taking a trip is the answer. Where should I go?

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the pressure to increase the romance-meter is on! But who says you need to run off to Paris or Rome to ignite the sparks? In fact, Canadians don’t need to look much further than their own backyard to find the perfect romantic hideaway. From breathtaking views in Whistler to quaint and cosy streets in Old Montreal, Canada is a treasure-trove of romantic destinations. With just a bit of effort you can plan a memorable getaway with your sweetheart without having to go very far or empty your pockets!
Here are some tips to help you start planning your romantic travels:
Determine your budget. Knowing how much you can actually spend rather than how much you wish you could spend will help you narrow down (or broaden) your travel options. For instance, if you are working with a leaner budget, why not consider a weekend in the city? Staying in a hotel downtown and rediscovering where you live can make you feel like you are on a getaway without actually going anywhere. You can find four star hotels across Canada for under $100 a night.
List your common interests. Figuring out your common interests will help you plan a trip that is sure to make both of you happy. Do you enjoy the great outdoors? If so, you can wow your significant other with a trip to Whistler. We’re already seeing post Olympic deals at some of the best resorts. If you enjoy more laid back activities, take a stroll in Old Montreal, with its European flair you will feel miles away (but without the jet-lag).
Discover Canada together. While it’s great to go back and visit your favourite places, why not plan a trip to a city you both have yet to visit? Discovering a new place together will not only increase your sense of adventure, but is a real bonding experience. Whether it’s a weekend in Banff or a stay in Vancouver, you’re sure to create new and lasting memories.
Pass on the presents. No need to go all out on flowers, jewellery and chocolates if you are really just looking to get away with your loved one. Pool your Valentine's Day funds and see if something exotic isn’t out of the question. Whether it’s fun in the sun at an all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean, an exciting long weekend in Vegas or a short road trip up north, remember that travel can be affordable when you know where to save and when to spend.
