About Gabrielle Johnson
When shopping finally becomes an Olympic event, editor Gabrielle Johnson is pretty sure she’ll take home the gold medal for Canada – after inquiring about the availability of other colours (lilac? chartreuse?) and politely requesting a discount. Every week, she shares a glimpse into what’s on her style radar.
OPI's Newest Nail Polish Shades
life/style t.o.: new opi nail polish shades canada, Toronto
(Nov.02.11)

One of the things I love most about my job is getting paid to do stuff I would quite happily do for free, like testing out new nail polish colours. Whenever a big box of next season's shades lands on my desk, it's pretty much impossible to resist ditching my current manicure in favour of all the gorgeous new hues just begging to be tried.
I was lucky enough to get my hands on the entire Kardashian Kolors collection from Nicole by OPI a few months back, and the 14 shades are finally hitting Shoppers Drug Mart stores now ($10.99 each). Say what you will about the Kardashian clan, but there's no denying those girls know makeup. I love the selection of colours, from the super on-trend Khloé Had a Little Lam Lam (a stunning and surprisingly versatile deep teal green) to the fantastically girly Wear Something Spar-Kylie, an ultra-sparkly pink that provides amazing coverage and opacity. Seriously, I've never seen another sparkle like it. Sealed with a Kris, a sexy burgundy, is another standout, and fans of neutral hues will adore My Empire... My Rules, a medium taupe-y grey.

Now that Halloween is over and done with, I think it's officially okay to start talking about holiday makeup — so get ready for sparkles, sparkles and more sparkles. The four beauties above represent Nicole by OPI's limited edition Holiday Glitters collection, and they're available this month at Shoppers Drug Mart, Loblaws and Zellers ($10.99 each). Naturally, the deep magenta sparkle (My Sleigh's in the Shop) is my favourite because I'm a sucker for pink, but the warm gold (Glitter in my Stocking), tomato red (Orna-ment for Each Other) and icy blue (Snow-man of my Dreams) will all be making appearances on my digits this season.
I don't mean to be a tease, but I couldn't resist telling you about OPI's new collaboration with superstar singer Nicki Minaj. The six-shade collection won't hit salons and stores until January, but the colours are too fantastic not to share. I'm obsessed with Fly, a rich turquoise that screams spring/summer, and Did It On 'Em, a bold chartreuse that would look amazing on toes or as an accent nail. There's also a purple-based shatter called Super Bass and a sweet pink (not pictured) named for her debut album, Pink Friday.
Which colours will you be scooping up?
