About Gabrielle Johnson
When shopping finally becomes an Olympic event, editor Gabrielle Johnson is pretty sure she’ll take home the gold medal for Canada – after inquiring about the availability of other colours (lilac? chartreuse?) and politely requesting a discount. Winter Wardrobe Wish List
life/style t.o.: 5 perfect winter finds canada, Toronto
(Nov.09.11)
Before the holiday season descends upon us and we all get caught up in a whirlwind of gift buying and cooking baking and tree trimming and party dresses and sparkly makeup, I for one would like to take the time to get my everyday winter wardrobe in shape. I pulled out the sweaters I loved so much in years past and noticed they're starting to pill, and my love affair with leggings — a onetime cold-weather staple — is well and truly over. A serious shopping session is definitely in order.

Red-hot boots
I could be practical and invest in a pair of sturdy, sensible waterproof boots, but where's the fun in that? I'd much rather indulge in these drop-dead gorgeous B Brian Atwood calfhair booties. I mean, come on. Red. Calfhair. Ankle boots. Are they stunning or what? I'd wear them with everything from cocktail dresses to cigarette pants to flirty skirts.

The perfect coat
This J.Crew envelope coat has all of the characteristics I'm looking for in a winter staple: style, warmth, a cosy feel and an effortlessly cool silhouette. Plus, would you believe I don't actually own a single black coat? I'm always drawn to colour, but this sophisticated goes-with-everything topper is really calling my name.

A sexy sweater
Winter just wouldn't be winter without a slew of slouchy sweaters to help us get through those chilly days. What I love about this elegant loose-fitting Zara knit is its longer length (perfect for pairing with skinny jeans) and its super-sexy deep v-neck; just because it's cold outside doesn't mean we can't show a little skin.

Moody-hued jeans
I shunned jeans for years, but my cobalt blue J Brand skinnies made me rethink my stance on denim. They're comfy but not sloppy, and I love the way they elevate a casual look into more fashion-forward territory. I've been hankering after a second pair, and these yummy J Brand mid-rise skinny jeans in Black Cherry will do the trick very nicely indeed.

A bold, beautiful bag
It's hard to put my love for this 3.1 Phillip Lim Pashli croc-effect leather tote bag into words, but I'll try: WANT. NOW. First of all, it's grey, which is a fabulous colour for a handbag; second, the croc effect gives it a unique pattern that makes it stand out while still matching absolutely everything in my closet.; and third, it's big without being too big. I mean, really, what more could you ask for in a bag?
