To Those At Sea

price of love canada (Nov.03.09)

All of you single ladies out there (and formerly single ladies too), please humour me and picture yourselves at sea, nothing but ocean everywhere you look.

You’re searching for mainland and know (with varying degrees of certainty and patience) that you’ll find it.

What kind of boat are you on?

Perhaps it’s a speedboat and you zip through the water and find mainland quickly and effortlessly without any discouragement or hesitation.

It could be a sailboat, and you glide through the water, adjusting the mast, left partly to your own efforts and somewhat up to Mother Nature.

Or, maybe it’s a row boat (and you’re working up a sweat with those oars). Every stroke burns and at times it feels like you’re paddling against the current, but you keep on going… after all, no pain, no gain, right?

Eventually in the distance, you see some form of land. Only as you get close and explore it a little bit, do you know what type you’ve discovered.

Perhaps it’s merely a speck of a spot, not much more than a big rock with a tree for decoration.

Maybe it’s a fully formed island thriving with life, culture and commerce – one that you can have a fabulous time vacationing on and maybe stay a while.

Or, it might even be your desired and destined mainland where you will remain forever.

In time, a woman finds out if a new guy in her life is a rock mass, an island or her mainland.

I like to think I’ve dropped my oars, let down my sail, turned off my motor and am allowing myself to be guided by the current that will lead me to my desired destination.

I digress to Michael Buble’s new hit “Just Haven’t Met You Yet” for a little inspiration (thanks to a girlfriend that got my head bopping to this song earlier tonight).

“I might have to wait, I’ll never give up, I guess half is timing, and the other half’s luck. Wherever you are, whenever it's right, you’ll come out of nowhere and into my life.”

After years of trying to make a rowboat into a speedboat with a sail, I have strengthened my faith that I will find who I’m looking for, he will find me, and the time will be right.

In the meantime, I’ve enjoyed island life.

The key is to make sure we are truly happy with ourselves, inside and out. After all, no mainland is without risk of an earthquake, tornado, hurricane or fire. As long as we are strong in our core, we can deal with whatever life (or Mother Nature) throws our way.

What boat are you currently single ladies on? Are you destined for mainland?

Formerly single? What boat steered you to your mainland?

Share your thoughts, don’t be shy!
