Fall Forward

I know, I know, it’s still August, and still very much summer. But with September just around the corner, and back-to-school supplies on my shopping list, fall is definitely on the horizon (not to mention our Trend Guide today). It’s definitely the time of year when, for me anyway, summer is old news and I’m looking forward to fresh air and fresh fashion, among other things. Here are five (random) things I’m getting excited about:
Sweaters: Nothing’s as cosy or cute as a sweater with a pair of jeans. I love this cute cardigan ($29) from Joe Fresh. At that price, I’m wondering how many colours it comes in.

School supplies: My (biggest) little guy starts grade one this year, so the supply list gets slightly more serious. Some parents groan and complain about back-to-school shopping. I relish it. But why should he get all that cool new stuff? I’m in the market for a new laptop case, and this one ($75) from Melissa Beth is catching my eye.

Boots: So easy, so practical. These soft grey Jacobitz boots ($65) from Aldo are calling to me. And the affordable price tag means I won’t be waiting for them to go on sale. (Note to self: order soon.)
Soup: I love making homemade soups, so as soon as the cooler weather hits I’ll be breaking out my stock pot. This year I’d like to try making the perfect French Onion Soup, and I like the look of this one.
Fall fairs: Every Labour Day weekend as long as I can remember, I’ve hit the Perth Fair. I love the animals, the food, the rides, and the wholesome family fun. Be sure to check out the weekly What’s Happening column for Ottawa here on SweetLife for listings of fairs in the Capital region.

See you in September.
