Suddenly it’s November, and the holidays are fast approaching. But don’t stress, because some wonderfully creative people in Ottawa have come up with the perfect shopping plan. It involves buying only unique handmade items, all made locally by independent artisans. The added bonus? There’s the potential to win a fabulous prize package. It almost sounds too good to be true, doesn’t it?
It’s called The Ottawa Craft Crawl, and it starts this coming weekend with Urban Craft on November 5th and Handmade Harvest on November 4th and 5th. Just pick up a passport, and get it stamped by at least four of the eight participating shows on the crawl (the final show is on December 10th, so there’s lots of time). You’ll then be eligible to win an awesome prize pack filled with handmade goodies from each of the shows on the crawl, and a season’s pass to the Great Canadian Theatre Company.
And the best part is that everyone on your list will be touched by your thoughtful gift handmade by a local artisan (rather than a generic gift hastily picked up at the grocery store). I’ve been to several of these shows in past years, and I can assure you they’re all of the modern, hip craft show variety. Not a shriveled apple Mrs. Claus doll in sight. (No doubt I’ll find something to tuck into my own stocking as well.)
Be sure to check the weekly What’s Happening column for craft shows participating in the crawl. Happy shopping!
