All Hail Hintonburg

All Hail Hintonburg ottawa, canada (Nov.09.11)

If there’s one neighbourhood in Ottawa that’s making waves right now, it’s definitely Hintonburg. It seems like nearly every week, we’re hearing about a great new shop or restaurant opening on this up-and-coming stretch of Wellington St. W., but I think it’s safe to say it’s no longer up-and-coming – it’s officially arrived. Here’s a sampling of all the new spots that have made the pages of Sweetspot.ca in the last year (with more to come soon):

Isobel’s Cupcakes & Cookies: Just as the names suggests, cupcakes, decorated cookies and many more delicious treats come out of this shop, which recently relocated here from the other side of the city.

Blumen Studio: Gorgeous, chic flowers and accessories, plus yummy hot beverages, and treats from some of the city’s top bakeries. Sit and sip a cappuccino and nibble a cupcake while leafing through a magazine, and leave with an armload of blooms. (This is the only spot here that’s not on Wellington St. W. Find it at 465 Parkdale Ave. between the Queensway and Wellington.)

Oresta Organic Skincare Apothecary: Divine spa services and all-natural, organic skincare from this sister location of the original Oresta Organic Skincare Confectionary.

Burnt Butter Italian Kitchen: This hot new resto offers warm-you-to-your-toes Italian-inspired comfort food done in a sophisticated way. I’d recommend making a reservation.

AlphaSoul Café: A quirky little spot with delicious soups and sandwiches, that turns into a wine bar and live-music venue by night. You can’t miss its purple façade.

Art-is-in Bakery: I can’t walk into this place without leaving with about five times more than I’d intended. Everything is ridiculously good here. Bread, pastries, macarons, sandwiches, soups and so much more. Yum.

Tennessy Willems: Wood-oven fired pizza with inventive toppings in a rustic-chic environment. A great date night spot that’s the ideal mix of relaxed and warm but still date-worthy.

And let’s not forget the kids:

Peek-a-boo Natural Toys: This is the place to find the perfect gift for the little ones in your life, from organic and natural toys to décor and super-sweet clothing from Europe.

4Cats Arts Studio: Splatter paint parties, creative art workshops and more fun stuff happens all day long at this kids’ art studio.

Can’t wait to see what this neighbourhood has coming next. See you on Wellie West!
