Jan P. emailed us at asktheexpert@sweetspot.ca: I’ve had no luck covering up my under-eye circles with concealer. Help!
…and our makeup expert, Miriam Gee, answered:
Don’t give up. By applying concealer properly and avoiding common mistakes (fingers are for manicures, not eye makeup), you’ll be able to cover dark circles more effectively. Try these three tips to get better coverage:
- The colour. For severe circles, use a yellow-based concealer. To even out a mild pigmentation, choose an ivory-based product. Don’t apply a pink-based concealer to cover dark circles. Before you buy, check that the colour matches your skin tone by using a Q-tip for a patch test.
- The skin. Product will adhere best to properly prepped skin. Before applying concealer, moisturize with an SPF-rated eye cream.
- The application. Concealer resting on top of the skin’s surface is more prone to crease. For best results, blend the product into your skin using a brush (which will also help it spread more evenly). Don’t use your fingers – grease from your hands will mix with the concealer, causing it to streak and smudge.
Sweet tip: If your concealer dries out, dab your brush into eye cream and mix it into the product.
