Editor: Where’s that story on Spa Ritual?
Writer: Haven’t started.
Editor: It was due four days ago.
Writer: I totally forgot – I’ve been riding out my zen buzz.
Editor: Your what? This is an office, not some recovery camp for blissed-out spa goers.
Will someone please send the Sweetspot editors to The Spa Ritual for a day?
This 7,000-square foot beauty in the city’s northwest could make anyone forget work with its Asian-inspired, new-to-Canada beauty rituals.
The brainchild of Shauna Walker, the owner of Sante Spa, The Spa Ritual recreates Ms. Walker’s travels throughout the Far East. Laid out in a maze of private treatment rooms and nature-inspired pathways, the spa has its own Eternity Fountain, a Royal Thai Suite, a Lotus Garden, a Bamboo Garden (where you can get the country’s first bamboo massage, starting at $150). There’s even a traditional Japanese tearoom hidden within.
The rituals and experiences run the gamut from the basic lemongrass manicure (starting at $65) to elaborate packages (up to $875) for mums, tweens and golfers, to name a few.
We indulged in the Lu’lur Experience ($550 per couple), a couples’ treatment based on an ancient Balinese wedding ritual. We were led to a set of dark double doors that opened to a private candlelight suite with a pair of silk-topped massage beds and a round tub filled with lotus flowers. Two hours later, we emerged, giggling with skin like a baby’s and not a care in the world.
Even hard-nosed editors can’t kill that zen buzz.
