Watching the latest episode of Mad Men, we mused over which character we admire more: Red-headed Joan, the alpha working girl, or Betty, the chic blonde princess. Both women are dripping with femininity and impeccably groomed. (Insert wistful sigh here.)
Inspired to overhaul our makeup bag, we strode into Smashing, a new downtown beauty boutique. The all-white shop, alit with vintage chandeliers, is fully stocked with enviable, high-end cosmetics.
We snapped up the Ole Henriksen walnut body scrub ($29) and a tube of Stainiac lip tint by The Balm ($18). We were giddy over 100% Pure’s organic white chocolate foaming shower gel ($20) and Zents’ fig body lotion ($30). The prize for pretty packaging went to Jaqua, as they share our affection for pink-and-brown boxes. And the body butters ($28), with scents such as buttercream frosting and mint chocolate, are good enough to eat.
The must-have product? An ingenious lipstick by Liparazzi ($32). It comes with a narrow mirror down the side of the lipstick, plus a light in the wand (no more guessing if you hit your top lip while refreshing lipstick in the back of a cab).
The best part of our beauty binge? Walking around town with the girly pink Smashing bag that would make Joan and Betty jealous.
