About May Globus
Vancouver City Editor May Globus is obsessed with the sartorial and all that surrounds it: art, design, culture, music and film. Oh, and she really likes writing about it, too. A left coast girl at heart, her Sweetspot finds just might show why the westside really is the best side.
It's rained every June that I can remember in the last ten years, but this year was mighty different.
We were lucky enough to bask in nearly non-stop sunshine (save for that unbearably humid August heatwave us west coasters aren't built for), crowds flooding local patios and beaches till late, soaking up those four months of rays that would eventually give way to non-stop precipitation for the next eight (this month has already brought a fall chill to the air).

I predict Summer '09 will go down in local history books as one of the greatest there ever was.
Why, you ask? Oh, let me count the ways:
Because
Qoola opened its doors on Denman Street (I had at least one green tea fro-yo with marionberry sauce craving a week).
Because outdoor movies were the rage (The Princess Bride in Stanley Park, anyone?).
Because the new Keg restaurant in Yaletown gave Vancouverites the best -- and chicest -- patio this city has ever seen.
Because of six words: fish and chips at
Go Fish.
Because new
bike lanes made the city an even greener place to be, even if drivers loathe their presence.
Because of the Canada Line from the airport in Richmond to Waterfront in Gastown (though I'm guessing the cab driver population will heavily beg to differ on this point). It's fast and only $2.50 out of pocket!
Because the Twilight kids took over our town.
So, dearest Summer '09, it's been a slice.
Now it's time to bring on the pumpkin spiced lattes, tights, layers and coats. Until next year!
