Age Ain't Nothing But A Number

The late Aaliyah once crooned that age ain't nothing but a number, and friends: that statement is true.

After celebrating my twenty-[redacted] birthday last week (and after getting over the fact that my twenties will soon be reaching a real and final end), I became rather excited for the next decade of my life. 

I know many brilliant colleagues and friends who are in their thirties, and they just love it. They are settled in their fantastic careers, know who they are and know what they want. They've kicked any bad habit of picking the wrong guys for the most part (no more ridiculous compromises or justifications), and they're financially able to buy that Mike & Chris leather jacket when they want to. They have a finely tuned sense of self-respect and a deep knowledge of their self-worth. They know how far they've come and are still excited for all the new adventures that are yet to unfold. And you bet they'll make those new adventures happen, you just wait.

Some women's hands get clammy at the thought of turning the big 3-0, but I'm not too worried. Now that the dust has settled from this past weekend's birthday festivities at the new Guilt & Company under Chill Winston in Gastown (and now that I've down multiple Emergen-C drinks to recover), I'm going to take a personal time-out to celebrate me and my rapidly fleeting twenties.

And I'll do it with my Chuck Klosterman book, the seawall, a smile and possibly -- okay, like, definitely -- a cupcake.
