About May Globus

Vancouver City Editor May Globus is obsessed with the sartorial and all that surrounds it: art, design, culture, music and film. Oh, and she really likes writing about it, too. A left coast girl at heart, her Sweetspot finds just might show why the westside really is the best side.

It's To Die For

the view from vancity: to die for banana bread canada, Vancouver (Nov.09.11)

Going from October to November means two things: getting into the holiday spirit (as evidenced by the change in Starbucks cups from white to festive red) and men taking the liberty to grow all sorts of moustaches for prostate cancer research.

Since half the population can't biologically grow any impressive upper lip hair, us females have to turn to other options to support this annual cause. Thankfully, Juice Truck and Queen of Banana Bread Erin Ireland (of To Die For Fine Foods) have come up with a delightful, edible solution: the Banana Bread Smoothie.

It made the list.

Erin, whose popular banana bread is kryptonite for anyone with a sweet and salty tooth in this city and got raves from Michelin star chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten of MARKET, teamed up with Juice Truck boys Zach Berman and Ryan Slater to whip up a concoction consisting of one slice of To Die For banana bread, banana, cacao nibs, cinnamon and soy milk. (And PS: for lovers of Erin's bread, it's made of Callebut milk chocolate, organic bananas, olive oil and macadamia nuts.)

A dollar from each smoothie sale is donated to Movember Canada—the perfect excuse to be charitable while getting your hit of mid-day sugar.

The Banana Bread Smoothie is available at Juice Truck right at Water and Abbott from now until November 30.
