Sex and the City Vancouver (Apr.07.09)

Last week, it was made official that Carrie Bradshaw, Samantha Jones, Miranda Hobbs, and Charlotte York are coming back again to the silver screen on May 28, 2010.

As much as I love the sex, the city, its gals and all their shenanigans (some relatable, some not), with Carrie finally married to Big (and reunited with those flawless cobalt blue Jimmy Choo heels from that gigantic California closet), Miranda back together with Steve after both decided to cross the Brooklyn Bridge into each other's arms, Charlotte happily with Harry and children (adopted and biological) in the UES, and Samantha blissfully single again (sans Smith, sniffle), where else is there for the story line to go? Mommy hour at the playground? Menopausal yoga sessions??

I can't help but wonder.

Rumor has it that Patricia Field won't be making her grand return as the movie
sequel's costume designer, which also leaves me in a weird state of SATC limbo. After all, Field's crazy clothing and couture ensembles pretty much defined the entire show -- they were characters unto themselves. Only the indomitable Pat Field could make horsehead purses look remotely cool and sartorially palatable. And in the first movie, did they not do that cutesy, nostalgic montage of Carrie modeling memorable outfits chez Bradshaw with the rest of the gals holding their "toss" and "take" signs? It just wouldn't have been right not to pay homage to the ballerina dress Carrie twirls around in at the end of a now very familiar series opening sequence (cue jazzy piano).

That being said (and all minor qualms aside), I have a considerable amount of good faith in the writers of Sex and the City and in producer Michael Patrick King, so my cocktail ring-ed fingers are crossed that Sarah Jessica Parker wears Rodarte to the first premiere -- and that the sequel will have more than enough Carrie quotable quotes to help me live by.
