It's no secret I am somewhat of a TV addict. Ok, maybe ‘somewhat’ is too mild of a word for someone, who by all accounts, consumes TV at a rate of 15-20+ hours a week. Those who know the never-ending craziness of my life often wonder how I am able to fit it all in, and I simply counter with 'sleep is overrated'.
Admittedly, one of the most rewarding relationships in my life is with my PVR—after all, I say record, and he does. I say download only new episodes of Vampire Diaries, and he very intuitively bypasses all re-runs. He even stores mounting episodes of The Biggest Loser, knowing full well I’m only going to watch the final two. But he stores them anyway, without judgment or reprimand.
But this week, it’s all about the PVR cleanse, getting ready to record (and store) the genius that is Lost, (sadly) premiering it’s last season this Tuesday (Feb 2.). For those uninitiated, why the heck not?, and for those of you who are, you know the impending joy of which I speak.
One of the most deliciously frustrating shows I’ve ever watched (i.e. no, things will not wrap up nicely every episode, or every season for that matter), it’s probably the most captivating hour I spend on the couch every week.
The show had me hook, line and plane crash, and it’s been a torturous countdown before the start of every season, often culminating in ‘you could hear a pin drop’ viewing parties with friends. (And the subsequent—and unavoidable—late-night discussions.)
My husband and I even made a Lost pilgrimage, renting a jeep on our 2006 Hawaiian vacation, and driving to the ‘Lost beach’ on Oahu’s north shore to pay our respects.
What can I say? The show is a mostly-seamless blend of mystery, action, love and lust, as well as an exquisitely crafted paradigm of good and evil.
So as we ready ourselves to finally find out what really happened to the passengers of Oceanic Flight 815, and, more importantly, if Kate winds up with Jack or Sawyer (Sawyer please!), I ask you, what Lost mysteries are you hoping are solved, and what Lost characters, come and gone, do you hope to see again?
