I knew the day would eventually come, however I figured I would be well into my forties or fifties before I would
venture into the world of medical aesthetics to cinch, smooth, lift and tighten.
But after my commitment to a ‘new me’ made earlier this year, I thought it best to try and be proactive and see what kind of ‘maintenance’ is appropriate for the early thirties set.
So I headed to Sante Spa, renowned for their medical aesthetics.
After a skin consultation, it was suggested that medical microdermabrasion and/or a chemical peel would garner results, and break me into the world of aging upkeep gently.
I decided to try the chemical peel—a beta hydroxy acid blend that would essentially exfoliate my skin, correcting pigment problems, and of course revealing a more youthful, unpolluted glow.
The whole treatment to my face and neck took no more than half an hour: the face was cleansed, and the acid was applied via brush by registered nurse Nadia Zinchuk, to almost immediate skin tingling. To say the tingling was uncomfortable would be overstating—it was simply a light effervescent type feeling that definitely made you aware something was going on, but no pain or discomfort was involved.
After a few minutes, the face was cleansed of the acid, toned and moisturized. I inspected my post-acid-in-the-face face, and I have to say, I was very pleasantly surprised. Of course the rosy glow was there, but the skin was also smooth to the touch, most noticeably my neck and forehead.
Total damage? Face: $125. Neck: $95. Not cheap, but not overly financially taxing either.
It was recommended I come in for another one in a couple weeks, and then regular resurfacing every two to three months. Not sure if I am ready for such a commitment, but the lure of my fresh-looking skin and minimal time investment just might have me sticking to this regime for a while.
Anything you’d like to see me try? Let me know.
