Suffice it to say, I have had a few Big Macs in my day. Fast food was pretty much a University
staple, so while I supersized to my heart’s (and budget’s) content back in the day, I would like to think my culinary palette has somewhat matured. (Sadly, so has my metabolism.)
It was with some reluctance that I recently gave up control (and acquiesced to the wants of the majority) and made my way to Loungeburger on a Friday night. My feelings were two-fold—first, there are so many culinary delights yet to try in this fair city of ours why waste time on glorified fast food?, and second, how good can a place be with the B word as part of it’s moniker? (Yes, books, covers, judgment, I get it.)
The interior perked me up immediately--completely anti-burger establishment, with a contemporary sexy lounge vibe—the guys especially enjoyed the flat screen TV’s inside every booth.
Gourmet burgers are their specialty, so while I was temped to stick with a salad, I thought, Rome, Romans, why not…
So I ordered a free-range turkey burger with mango chutney. Verdict? Besotted at first bite. Definitely not the burgers of my drive-thru past. I’ve even been back since, and l look forward to sampling the elk and tiger shrimp burgers very soon.
Just this past weekend, to my surprise, I found myself sitting at yet another ‘burger joint’. It was a good friend’s birthday, so demanding a venue change would have been downright uncouth. And seeing as how Loungeburger went over quite well, I decided to bite the proverbial bullet (and burger) once again.
This time it was Tommy Burger, and an incredibly delectable veal burger that had my taste buds in a tizzy. Succulent and perfectly spiced in a lettuce wrap instead of a bun, it is safe to say I am now officially a burger convert.
Even if I (with prayers to the willpower gods!) resisted the garlic fries.
