This past week was all about one thing, and that was the return of Sex and the City. Events popped up all over the city in celebration of the fab four, and homage was paid in full.
My week started out at the Holt Renfrew party, aptly held inside their opulent shoe department, where, to the chagrin of my husband, I may or may not have fallen in love with a pair of Valentino booties that are slated to come in the next couple of weeks.
There were hors d’ouvres a plenty, custom-created champagne cocktails, extravagant footwear (coveted and tried on), all capping off with a screening of Sex and the City 2 at Eau Claire.
But it wouldn’t be a true Sex and the City celebration without the company of girlfriends, so Saturday proved to be just that—a gathering of 12 gals, for a day of pampering, cosmos, and sisterhood.
The day started out at downtown’s Urban Venus, where we all indulged in deliciously fruity pedis,
munchies, and a re-watching of the first Sex and the City movie on the nail bar’s overhead TV. (Cute shoes were a pre-requisite for the day, so it only made sense that our feet were filed and polished to perfection. My Valentino heels finally made their big city debut!)
Then it was off to dinner at the sexy Raw Bar inside Hotel Arts, where a private candlelit lounge space served as the perfect backdrop for a pre-dinner Sex and the City quiz. Everyone netted a prize, most of which were handmade, Sex and the City-inspired, and found on the treasure trove that is Etsy—including Carrie-inspired floral pins courtesy of Calgary shop Bonton Vintage.
After the initial round of cosmos, subsequent rounds of other deliciously concocted cocktails and wine, it was time for the late show of Sex and the City 2 at Chinook. And while the consensus is that the movie is rather silly and not as good as the first, everyone agrees it does not matter.
What Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda continue to remind us of, is how important good girlfriends really are, and that, exclusive of anything else, is reason enough to celebrate. Well that, and a really good pair of shoes.
