Five Things I Can’t Live Without Right Now
calgary coolhunting: five things canada
(Mar.09.11)
I’m forever making up lists in my mind: top five spring fashion trends, top five hairsprays, top five moisturizers, top five fragrances... you name it, I’ve made a top five for it. So it seems perfectly natural for me to share five things I can’t live without, as of March, 2011.

My Nespresso Essenza
I love coffee. I’m proud to say it’s one of my vices. I recently told a friend that if I had $20 to my name I’d spend it on a one-week supply. At least I’d enjoy a daily moment of pleasure while I figure out how to make more money.
Admittedly, this machine is a little pricey, but it makes the most divine coffee. It’s easy to use, too. You just pop a specially designed pod (my favourite is Indriya) into the loader thingy, press a button and presto: a perfect shot of espresso topped with a rich layer of créma that will rival anything made in a fancy café. (Nothing against fancy cafés.)
Come to think of it, if I had $20 to my name I should consider selling my Nespresso machine. Never!

Baléa 3 in 1 cleansing cloths
Contrary to popular belief, I’m not very particular about my nightly skin cleansing routine. In fact, I’m downright lazy about it. For some reason I become deathly lethargic right before bed and hardly find time to eek out a zombielike tooth brushing, let alone a Joan Crawford-esque beauty routine.
That’s why I love these facial wipes. They’re east to use and best of all, they’re cheap — I’ve seen the starter kit on sale at Shoppers Drug Mart for $5.99. Bonus: they don’t require water, so I can even keep a box by my bed for extra-lazy nights.

Twitter
I admit it: I’m addicted to Twitter. Truth be told, I’m no stranger to technology-related compulsions, but this is different. This one’s truly useful. I swear!
Being new to Calgary, I turn to Twitter to get me up to speed on what makes Calgarians tick... er, tweet. I have to say, this is a happening town. So far my favourite tweeters include food writer Julie Van Rosendaal’s @dinnerwithjulie, style influencers Jason Krell @jasonkrell and Alykhan Velji @AlyVelji, and local charity with an international focus Operation Eyesight @OpEyesight.

Bevara sealing clips from Ikea
Perhaps a very inconsequential item to list, but keep in mind, this list only encompasses things I’m obsessed with this month.
These sealing clips have changed my life. I hate twist ties. Twist ties to me are what wire hangers are to Joan Crawford (second Joan Crawford mention in this blog post, and maybe not the last). So you could imagine how excited I was to discover these nifty clips. Think of them as barrettes for your open bags of baby carrots, chips, coffee, flour, spices and pasta. Waste not, want not.

Avon Naturals Vanilla Deodorant
This is one of the best-smelling deodorants I’ve ever used. I can’t stand those “fresh” men’s scents, and some of the women’s versions aren’t much better. Lucky for me, my mom’s a bonafide Avon lady, so I get her to stockpile these for me, and at $1.99 (and often half of that) they don't break the bank.
What fun and frivolous items can’t you live without right now?
