For us Calgarians, July does not often guarantee blossoming flower beds.
With our unpredictable weather, we’ve put away our gardening shears, and instead hail the arrival of the just opened Lavender Lane Flowers—a garden oasis in our downtown midst.
Located in a 100-year-old building in the historical Bell Block, British mum and daughter duo Carol and Stacey stock plentiful blooming wildflowers to let us recreate an English garden feel regardless of the forecast.
The quaint shop is open and welcoming, with all fresh flowers openly displayed, to be admired (and, of course, smelled). An average arranged vase starts at $65, while hand-tied bouquets average at $45, depending on flowers used. But with English charm, the ladies will work within any budget and floral inclination.
We immediately took a fancy to Blooms in a Bag ($45+), a combination of loose flowers (or pre-made arrangements) in a contemporary carrying bag designed to keep our blooms crush-free on our walk back home.
Beats being elbow-deep in dirt any day.
