Once upon a time there was a newspaper, a soda can and a broken bike headed for the dump…
Not so fast. Instead of tossing things in the trash, Il était deux fois turns them into treasure. The family-run boutique just opened its second location on St-Laurent above Mont-Royal (a strip that is quickly becoming the green hub of the city).
In addition to upcycling standbys like repurposed record bowls ($8-32), the store carries original eco creations – vintage cameras turned into clocks ($160), baskets made of used (and sanitized) chopsticks ($9-22), and cards ($6) with flower seeds woven into the paper fibres. (Instead of throwing them out, plant them!)
If only all recycling was that easy.
