It’s been a while since our adolescent forays to friperies on Mont Royal, combing through hidden treasures. (One man’s trash is another lucky lady’s favourite leather jacket.)

And when it comes to home decor, going vintage is now en vogue. So when we stumbled upon Kitsch ‘n Swell on St Laurent, second-hand shopping became second nature once again. With the tagline “Not made in China” we can rest assured that our finds are truly unique.
After picking up a few Playboy magazines ($9.95) – circa the 60s and 70s – to add a naughty touch to our bathroom wall, we move on to the heart of the house: The kitchen. We search through an array of vintage small appliances (from a manual hand beater to an orange juice press) until stumbling on the true pièce de resistance, a colourful Twist chalkboard ($69.95).
And seeing as we never did really swear off “preloved” garb, our final tally includes a pair of antique bejeweled cufflinks ($39.95). We’ll need something to wear to our new-furniture-warming party.
