When our cars sputter, we see a mechanic. Toothache? Dentist. But when our hair won't cooperate, we load it with products and attack it with hot styling tools, often only to make it worse (and then wear a hat). We need professional help.
Last week, help arrived in the form of the Blowdry Lounge. This sleek spot from one of the city's favourite stylists, Beni Sicilia, is a 30-minute fix to the confidence-crusher known as the bad hair day.
We swung by with an appointment (but it's not necessary) for a Blow Out ($35-$45, depending on length/texture) and walked out with sleek hair to our specifications (with some helpful input from the pros). With six stations and four stylists working seven days a week, we may stop washing our own hair altogether. Or at least for the important things: date night (they're open until 9 on Thursdays and Fridays), big meetings (they start at 8 on weekdays) and, um, Sundays.
A la carte add-ons let us experiment with style, like partial flat iron ($10), rollers or curling iron for big waves ($20), five-minute liquid protein boost ($20), up-dos ($20-$35) and even different kinds of cuts. Plus, with Blowdry Lounge To Go where we can arrange for them to come to us, our flat iron is starting to seem like a very expensive paperweight.
Maybe we can start referring to it as modern art.
