We are women, hear us drill.
And hammer, saw and even install our own hardwood floors. No, you’re not in the middle of a terrifying nightmare…
We’re our own handywomen, thanks to Jude Murphy, co-owner of Willowmoon Carpentry.
A journeyman carpenter for nearly 29 years, Ms. Murphy and her daughter Cortney offer women-only workshops on the basic how-to’s of home fix-up. The one- and two-day courses cover everything from how to use a power tool to how to re-do your bathroom plumbing.
The workshops kick off with a beginner’s class—Power Tools are a Girl’s Best Friend ($200) on November 22 and 23. That’s followed by Basic Home Maintenance for Women Level 1 and 2 ($250) in 2009 where we’ll learn basic drywall, plumbing and electrical repair. By spring, we’ll be building our own decks.
Hint to Santa: Gift certificates are available.
The courses have a maximum of 6 to 30 women, and are offered in the Willowmoon Shop or Killarney Glengarry Community Hall. The full schedule is posted online.
Bzzzzz (that’s the sound of our drills) - bring on the home fix-ups, and a sound night’s sleep.
