Sure, we’ve made our resolutions (thanks, 2009 Resolutions Guide) and we’re doing our best to keep things on track. Not only are we more organized this year, but we’re also making savvier and more conscious shopping decisions.
That’s why we’re heading to Body Politic.
Owner Nicole Ritchie-Oscen’s new abode—in SOMA proper—stocks only sustainable fashion-forward designs. From the outside, the chocolate-coloured hardwood floors and the exposed concrete walls invited us in. Keeping us feeling welcomed once there were designs by Elroy Apparel, Snoflake, Namoda and Perfectly Imperfect, and accessories by kris nations and Teich.
What else was in store? The shop carries—exclusively in Canada—several American designers such as Lara Miller and Bahar Shahpar. Miller’s hand-loomed bamboo designs are soft and sculpted to the feminine figure, while Shahpar’s clothes elevated our eco-chicness to haute-couture levels. We loved her v-neck milk and honey blouse ($187) in green and decided to match it with Del Forte’s organic denim Camilla skirt ($196). The high-wasted design has the funkiest buttons down the front that made our hips (almost) disappear.
Conscious shopping mixed with style? That’s the plan.
