On a particularly snowy day we were desperate for shelter.
We ducked into a brand new décor shop – Basia Home – to escape the cold. And escape we did. This chic boutique is full of unique décor finds from around the globe.
You may already know owner Basia from her eponymous jewellery line and boho-luxe clothing and accessory boutique (which happens to be next door). The new (fresh and whitewashed) space is kept simple to show off the ample wears like quirky ceramics from KleinReid (from $120), modern tablewear from Teroforma (from $40) and fabulous French linens from Garnier-Thiebaut (from $240).
Oversized art including abstract oil portraits by Caroline Jean (from $1500) and surreal photographs (from $2500) by Jérome Bourque were hard to ignore. Custom-designed chandeliers by Basia, a former interior designer, will also be available to add a little sparkle to any ceiling.
Dupont, once just our spot for greasy spoons and a big LCBO, has quickly become our favourite new design destination (plus classic G.H. Johnson). Basia Home anchors the east; then going west we get South Hill Home, a second outpost of AT, and finally Angus & Company at Christie.
With cute coffee shops, quality restaurants and cheese boutiques filling in the gaps, this is one stroll worth braving the elements.
