Some night this past December I was on my way to some party in the middle of some storm at the peak of some bad, bad mood. You know that point when you've just experienced a horrible incident and the feeling is still rotting in your mouth? And then some poor soul innocently asks you how you're doing at that exact moment and you can't help but spit the whole sordid story out?

So now I'm on the way to some party in some storm in some mood telling some cabby way too much information about my personal life. His reaction? Let's blast The Beatles. Let's sing along. True, he didn't know half the lyrics - but who cares? What's a few words here and there when you're just trying to take a sad song and make it better.
I was a bit unsure at first (in the "hmm, is this guy drunk" sense of the word) but by the time we'd reached the third light I was belting tunes with him. At the fifth light he rewarded my enthusiasm by passing me a tambourine.
Yes, I said TAMBOURINE. In my cab. Snap.
When I arrived at the party I could barely remember what I'd been so upset about. It was an uplifting, one-of-a-kind moment.
At least it was one-of-a-kind until this Friday, when it happened again. I was with two other girls who were looking at me with a face of "Hey, is this guy drunk?". It took me a second to figure it out (he had switched his soundtrack from the Beatles to Abba), but as soon as I clued in I starting yelling for my tambourine. This time he joined in on the harmonica (as well as the car horn and a rhythmic tapping on the brake). We made it through a mega-mix of Abba Gold before arriving at our destination. It was the second best cab ride of my life (you just can't beat your first time).
The moral of the story?
We are given few opportunities to be outrageously fun and different. Grab life by the tambourine.
