Forget saving the best for last: LG Fashion Week started off with a bang at Sunny Fong's much-anticipated Vawk show at the AGO.
The crush of people out to welcome the Project Runway Canada winner's first formal foray into the fashion-eye since winning last season was phenomenal, and we all crammed into the (freshly Gehry-ized) Walker Court for a first look at his Spring/Summer 2010 line.
Turns out the Project Runway judges were spot-on in spotting talent (of course, we always trust Iman). With only 12 streamlined looks in his French Polynesian-inspired collection, Fong managed to make a huge impression.
While I've never been a big fan of beige, I loved it combined with pops of fuchsia and bright red: It took on a a raw, sexy look that was fresh and feminine. Add tropical flower detailing in leather and accents of sheer chiffon for a classically elegant--yet bold--look.
Standouts for me were a wide-legged pantsuit with Captain's jacket in sultry silk-cotton, and a floor-grazing gold silk cocktail dress bedecked with carmine side-panels and swishy accordion pleating.
I couldn't help but notice Biddell, watching from the sidelines, looking proud.
Consider the Project Runway torch officially passed.
