The best thing about Fashion Week is, being six months ahead, you always get a nice break from whatever is currently going on trend-wise.
Such was the case with Wesley Badanjak's Lovas collection. After working my way through a sea of black coats, black over-the-knee boots and (you guessed it) black purses to get to the runway, I was gifted with a show so bright, warm and sexy that it made me want to fast-forward to summer (or at least somehow get rid of my woolly pointelle leggings).
Inspired by the Adriatic Sea, the show was chock full of strapless mini-dresses, blithe blouses and continental cigarette pants in electric colours like coral and turquoise. Five men draped over shiny motorcycles framed the runway as each model came out, breezily stepping in time to the eastern European music as the boys' gazes lingered.
My gaze lingered on the simple-yet-pretty white eyelet Alonna dress, which I imagined would be perfectly accessorized with an ice cream cone; not to mention the Coral silk jersey Kara dress--which was so clingy that any thoughts of ice cream were immediately abandoned.
But denim was definitely Badanjak's strong suit. Show-mate Ashley Bennion and I both oohed in unison over a very wide-legged pair of treated-denim pants and the linen denim Mimi dress (which was just about as flirty and sexy as a summer dress can get).
The denim-and-white-jersey Vera dress on the other hand? Hard to imagine wearing...and probably even harder to wear.
Probably safest just to stick to black.
