Vibgyor, an acronym for the colours of the rainbow, had its North American debut yesterday here in Toronto. The collection is an international designer label from Mumbai, India, and joint collaboration between Simone Khambatta and Roma Narsinghani.
Their spring/summer collection, Juxtapose, was designed in mind for “the poor-little-rich-girl who loves to shop, [meets] the rich-little-poor-girl who sews her own clothes,” says Khambatta.
Among my favourites were a purple, linen circle dress with pleats, and an overlapping pleated dress with fabric twists in pink, grey and blue, very Alice in Wonderland; and the light grey fully embellished coin shorts (that made a gentle sound as they swooshed down the runway).
The light, pastel shades were matched with edgy, metallic colour (think metallic), surface embroidery and fabric manipulation. Basic silhouettes are paired with ruffled or pleated chiffon and tulle drapes and straight lines are placed near concentric circles.
