The Micalla show started off with some confusion, as it was being shown in the entertainment lounge (ie: where everyone lounges between shows). But it quickly became clear that it wasn’t one to miss (even if seeing it meant standing in heels while juggling swag bags and scribbling notes).
A flurry of long limbs and bare skin combined with all manner of feathers, pearls, gems and jewels paraded onto the runway. When I finally tore my eyes off the collection long enough to realize they were putting on a silent show (plot-lines and all), I noticed a male model in a chair at the end of the runway (fittingly) holding a jewellery box. As he watched the Moulin Rouge-like models prance around the stage, they did their best to impress him with their accessory-clad bodies.
It all played out like a 1920s Burlesque performance, making it a fun, interactive way to engage the crowd. But it was the accessories that stole the show. I can’t wait to get my hands on a few of the flapper-inspired pieces: feather headbands, anklets with slinky beading and layered pearl necklaces. It was definitely worth braving the crowds and the sore feet to get a glimpse of this collection.
