For those that like to mix fashion and food, Pat McDonagh's ice cream inspired collection might be the perfect combination of eye candy and, well, candy candy.
For me it was a disappointment.
I was genuinely looking forward to this Canadian fashion veteran's return to the runway (hey- she's designed for Grace Jones, what can I say?).
But when I saw the Baskin Robbins ice cream samples being given out, the faux ice cream cakes on stage, the cake shaped hats, the cherry-laden clothing (not to mention the weird advertorial film shown right before the show)...Call it the crash after the sugar rush, but my expectations of a serious fashion show were dashed.
Not that McDonagh fell victim to her subject matter. She obviously had fun with the concept and dealt with it deftly (most notably the chocolate brown skirt cleverly tailored with 6 cone-shaped pockets). But with 4 different groups (and 39 "flavours"), the show felt too long, too bright and too sugary.
Who knows? Maybe next season we'll get to see a real show.
Now, that would be a treat.
