When the show started (about 15 minutes late) the woman next to me literally jumped in her seat when the DJ cued (the somewhat deafening) Lady Gaga.
Project Runway Canada alum
Sunny Fong showed his collection Monday at the beautiful (and conveniently stationed) AGO, where we overheard more than a few people wonder aloud why all the shows aren't held there. As model after model came out wearing finely tuned dresses, jackets and coats muffed with fur, I couldn't help but think of Russian socialites.
From the belted jackets to the twisted pleat details, I was loving the feel of his modern, rebelous looks. There was one pair of pants in particular I was obsessing over. The pants featured a built in leather corset detail that was simply gorgeous. I was even loving the updos (whipped up by Yorkville's
Salon Daniel) that were at once prim and rock and roll.
And while it was no shock that the show saw tons of fur (the invitation did picture a closeup of some kind of animal afterall) some of the surprises included Fong's use of a diverse string of models. Sure, we saw the requisite super skinny ones, but the fact he used some average size girls and (gasp!) even a more matural grey-haired woman, was a refreshing change of pace.
