It was pandemonium on Thursday night, as throngs of people (where did they all come from?) herded into the room for a seat at Barbie by David Dixon. After much confusion, the runway “sweepers” from the FDCC (sporting dark shades and dressed in the most adorable trench coats with big black bows) managed to get things settled (albeit about 35 minutes late).
As the lights dimmed and the music cued, the models came out be-bopping away to a surf city Malibu soundtrack and channelling London's famed Carnaby Street, where Dixon looked to iconic models like Jean Shrimpton and Twiggy for his 60s-inspired Barbie collection.
Shift dresses, side ponytails and tons of mascara shaped the vibe of the show, followed by sweet tweed suits, wool swing coats and dresses in black and fuchsia houndstooth and bright floral-print charmeuse.
She may be over 50, (and plastic) but the promise of Carnaby Barbie can still draw a crowd.
