Lucian Matis has this charming ability to make me reconsider everything I'd thought about fashion.
Beige was always blah. Tulle was always too girly. Bright colours were always best left on tourist T-shirts from Barbados.
But then in an instant I forgot everything I knew and thought only of what I loved: the entire collection, tulle and all.
The first look down the runway was a beige bodysuit with capelet sleeves accented with silver detailing that spread across the bodice. Tulle rosettes in blush and soft yellow covered the waist down. It was just about the sweetest bodysuit I'd ever seen, and I immediately started racking my brain for an appropriate occasion to wear one (a baby shower, perhaps?).
What followed was an array of luxurious textures of tulle, thick woven silk, ruffles and soft chiffon, in the most eye catching colours. Favourites were yellow, magenta and orange, all popping brilliantly against the beige that grounded the collection.
The cuts ranged from pom pom-esque tulle dresses to figure-flattering gowns that nipped the waist and accentuated shoulders using chic sleeves.
The entire collection was a balance of extremes: Barely-there bodysuits to puff ball cocktail dresses. Beige to the boldest brights. Sheer chiffon that fluttered down the runway to stiff, woven garments.
And I was (to no surprise) extremely impressed.
